Durian causes power outages in eastern Canada

Hurricane Durian cut power to hundreds of thousands of people in Canada’s eastern provinces today as it moved to the northeast with strong winds enough to uproot wooden boards from roofs and break large branches of trees.

The electricity company in Nova Scotia said about 300,000 customers were without electricity.

The Canadian Meteorological Agency said the cases were among an estimated 500,000 power outages across maritime provinces.
